Shelly teaches 3rd and 4th grade students at Positive Tomorrows, which is Oklahoma’s only elementary school specifically for homeless children. In 2015, Shelly was named a PBS Digital Innovator. Shelly has a strong passion in helping her students love learning. Her blog is very informational for fellow teachers.
In one of her posts, Technology 101 Skills for Teachers, Shelly emphasizes the importance of teachers integrating technology into their lessons. Shelly strongly believes that instead of putting students on an app to reinforce or teach basic skills, technology tools should be used to enhance and amplify student creativity. Because technology is becoming such a norm in the classroom, students need to be encouraged and/or required to create by teachers. Not only will students need to learn how to use this technology, but teachers will also need to build a sense of “app literacy” to know what is possible and what apps are appropriate. Technology can also empower teachers to use enrichment assessments. All in all, Shelly emphasizes the importance and benefits of using technology in the classroom. As a future teacher, I agree with Shelly that technology is important in the classroom. I grew up when current technology was starting to become a big hit. Kids love to use technology. Instead of a boring lecture or a standard exam, it technology can spice things up a bit! With the integration of technology in a classroom, lessons will be so much more engaging for the students. I truly believe that technology in the classroom will help students understand information better. |
